West LA Music in Santa Monica is going to have a few of the Vault rides in a couple of weeks. Other stores in Los Angeles won't have them for a couple of months.

As far as non-musicians go, in the 20-30 age group, ?uestlove is probably the most famous drummer out there who is playing right now.
I think his playing is so damn refreshing, like a nice glass of ice-water... no frills, no added flava, just there to hit the spot. [img]cool.gif[/img]
Artisan Vault Ride...
I found an online music store (a big one) that apperantly has them for $300 for a 20" - which from all the hype and speculation seems like a good deal...
Why am I not posting the link? Well... because I don't think they have many of these to go around... IF ANY (false advertising does exist!).
Point is, I have seen them FOR SALE at $300 USD.

You guys are spot on concerning the recommended listening for Questlove. The Philly album is something I still listen to a lot and D'Angelo's record is something I will probably pick up soon. His playing on the Roots' Live album is also crazy. If this guy gave clinics I would go just to hear him lay down a beat for an hour. Can't get enough of him.
I went to pick up the March issue of MD this morning. Since I don't have my subscription delivered to me here in Canada, I was surprised to see Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson on the cover! This honor is long overdue and I was thrilled to read his interview. There is some great info on his micing techniques for various records and of course a little insight to his "Less is more" attitude, which I happen to be very fond of. Its clear to see that he is not only a drummer, but a real lover of music. You'll see what I mean when you some pictures of his record collection...
Other highlights include the section called "Old-School Grooves". This features Garibaldi as he explains some of his favourite grooves from back in the day. Another article I found interesting is about Les Claypool and his view on drummers he's played with.
Finally: Remember the thread about the new Sabian Vault's were we were speculating about prices? Well and ad in the issue states:
"Vault crashes are available exlusively in brilliant finish...Prices range from $269(16") to $370(20")"
That leaves some questions open about the prices of rides but I assume they are in the upper-end of the range or even above...
So...I found this to be one of the better issues and I strongly suggest people have a read through it! Would be great to hear your views on the Questlove interview.

If you like the live album by The Roots, I also strongly recommend "Mama's Gun" by Erykah Badu. ?uest lays down some serious shit on there. Serious. Also, not sure when but D'Angelo has a new album coming out supposedly this year, and it looks like it'll be the springtime, maybe early summer. I'd assume that ?uestlove is behind the kit on that album also, but even if he's not, it will be great. Both of D's albums are stellar (Voodoo and Brown Sugar), and definetely worth a listen if you haven't heard them both already.Originally posted by Suspiria:

Thanks for the suggestion! I will check out the Badu album when I get a chance. I haven't heard too much of her material, but from what I understand Badu and Jill Scott are somewhat in the same "league"; in terms of vocal abilities/style/live performance.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Jill Scott is another great vocalist. Different from Badu, but both are equally great, IMO. Both use incredible drummers as well. I love both of their live albums (Badu's "Live" and Jill Scott's "Experience Jill Scott 826+). Poogie Bell is on the Badu one, and Erik Tribbett is on Jill's. Both are excellent and worth having in anyone's music collection, especially a drummer's.Originally posted by Suspiria:
